Data Description

JPSS CrIS SDR Reprocessed (RPCRISSDR) - The Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instrument provides atmospheric temperature and moisture observations for weather and climate applications. The CrIS sensor has three spectral bands: the long-wave infrared (LWIR) band (650-1095 cm-1), the mid-wave infrared (MWIR) band (1210-1750 cm-1), and the short-wave infrared (SWIR) band (2155-2550 cm-1). For each band, CrIS measures the infrared (IR) spectra from the Earth scene (ES) with a 3×3 detector array, corresponding to 9 field-of-views (FOVs) with a 14-km diameter at nadir or one field-of-regard (FOR). This data family includes reprocessed version 2 (RP2) calibrated radiance data (SCRIF or SCRIS) and geolocation (GCRSO) data. These Sensor Data Records (SDR) were generated by the Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) using the latest CrIS calibration coefficients and algorithms. The reprocessed SDRs are suitable for long-term climate monitoring, model assessment, and to evaluate the calibration accuracy of other instruments. Reprocessed CrIS SDR data obtained from the NOAA Comprehensive Large Array-Data Stewardship System (CLASS) are distributed as aggregated 8 minute files consisting of 15 granules in the Hierarchical Data Format v.5 (HDF5) with metadata attributes included. See the 'Details - Metadata, Documentation' section below for additional information. Collection landing pages for the products included in this family can be accessed via the "Product Details" link.
