Dataset Name

The dataset names for all 4 EUMETSAT instruments follows the same basic format.

<INSTRUMENT_ID>_<PRODUCT_TYPE>_<PROCESSING_LEVEL>_<SPACECRAFT_ID>_
<SENSING_START>_<SENSING_END>__<PROCESSING_MODE>_<DISPOSITION_MODE>_
<PROCESSING_ TIME>__<SOME_DATE>

Example:  IASI_xxx_1C_M02_20070101101500Z_20070101115500Z_N_O_20070101121500Z__20070101121500 Where: INSTRUMENT_ID  - 4 characters defining the instrument (ASCA, GOME, GRAS, IASI)
PRODUCT_TYPE  - 3 characters defining the type of product (For ASCAT this indicates the resolution - SZF
(full), SZR (research - 25KM), SZO (operational 50 KM);    for all other instruments: xxx (literally 3 lower
case x's)  )
PROCESSING_LEVEL - 2 characters (1B for ASCAT, GOME, GRAS;  1C for IASI)
SPACECRAFT_IUD - 3 characters   (M02, eventually also M01)
SENSING_START UTC - 15 characters - 14 for the date, one for the "Z" at the end - (YYYYMMDDHHMMSSZ)
SENSING_END UTC- 15  characters - 14 for the date, one for the "Z" at the end  (YYYYMMDDHHMMSSZ)
PROCESSING_MODE -  1 character   (N (nominal), B (backlog), R (reprocessing),  V (verification) )
DISPOSITION_MODE  -1 characters  (T (testing), O (operational), C (commissioning) )
PROCESSING_TIME UTC 15 characters - 14 for the date, one for the "Z" at the end  (YYYYMMDDHHMMSSZ)
SOME_DATE -14 characters (No Z at the end)   (YYYYMMDDHHMMSS)
Total length - 67 defined in documentation + 16 (2 underscores plus some date) = 83 characters

UTC

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the international time standard. It is the current term for what was referred to as Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT). Zero (0) hours UTC is midnight in Greenwich England, which lies on the zero longitudinal meridian. Universal time is based on a 24 hour clock, therefore, afternoon hours such as 4 pm UTC are expressed as 16:00 UTC (sixteen hours, zero minutes).
