Dataset Name

The dataset names for all 4 EUMETSAT instruments follows the same basic format.

INSTRUMENT_ID_PRODUCT_TYPE_PROCESSING_LEVEL_SPACECRAFT_ID_SENSING_START_
SENSING_END_PROCESSING_MODE_DISPOSITION_MODE_PROCESSING_ TIME_SOME_DATE

Example) IASI_xxx_1C_M02_20070101101500Z_20070101115500Z_N_O_20070101121500Z__
20070101121500

Where: INSTRUMENT_ID - 4 characters defining the instrument (ASCA, GOME, GRAS, IASI)
PRODUCT_TYPE - 3 characters defining the type of product (For ASCAT this indicates the resolution - SZF (full), SZR (research - 25KM), SZO (operational 50 KM) for all other instruments: xxx (literally 3 lower case xs)
PROCESSING_LEVEL - 2 characters (1B for ASCAT, GOME, GRAS 1C for IASI) SPACECRAFT_IUD - 3 characters (M02, eventually also M01)
SENSING_START UTC - 15 characters - 14 for the date, one for the Z at the end - (YYYYMMDDHHMMSSZ) SENSING_END UTC- 15 characters - 14 for the date, one for Z at the end (YYYYMMDDHHMMSSZ)
PROCESSING_MODE - 1 character (N (nominal), B (backlog), R (reprocessing), V (verification) ) DISPOSITION_MODE -1 characters (T (testing), O (operational), C (commissioning)
PROCESSING_TIME UTC 15 characters - 14 for the date, one for the Z at the end (YYYYMMDDHHMMSSZ) SOME_DATE -14 characters (No Z at the end) (YYYYMMDDHHMMSS) Total length - 67 defined in documentation + 16 (2 underscores plus some date) = 83 characters

**Operational

Commissioning

The phase or stage that EUMETSAT considers this data to be.

**Note that data with a disposition mode set to  "Operational" by EUMETSAT may still be considered pre-operational by NOAA.

End Orbit

The number of the orbit (revolution) in which the satellite was traveling at the end of the coverage of the given dataset.

End Time

The UTC date and time corresponding to the end of the coverage of the given dataset. Format is yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss.fff where fff is the fraction of a second in milliseconds.

Inventory ID

A unique numerical ID assigned to the data set for CLASS inventory purposes.

Node

The ascending node refers to that portion of the orbit during which the satellite is heading northward. Descending refers to the southbound portion.

Spatial

Refers to the geographic area of interest to the user. This section of the search page allows the user to define the geographic area of interest.

Start Orbit

The number of the orbit (revolution) in which the satellite was traveling at the beginning of the coverage of the given dataset.

Start Time

The UTC date and time corresponding to the beginning of the coverage of the given dataset. Format is yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss.fff where fff is the fraction of a second in milliseconds.

Temporal

Refers to the time span of interest to the user. This section of the search page allows the user to define the range of dates/times of interest.

UTC

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the international time standard. It is the current term for what was referred to as Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT). Zero (0) hours UTC is midnight in Greenwich England, which lies on the zero longitudinal meridian. Universal time is based on a 24 hour clock, therefore, afternoon hours such as 4 pm UTC are expressed as 16:00 UTC (sixteen hours, zero minutes).
